Dr Anula Nikapota is a child psychiatrist attached to the Maudsley Hospital,
with clinical work based in Brixton, which leads to a case load with a large
number of traumatised children many of whom are refugees. She is also
Programme leader for a course in child psychiatry for overseas clinicians at
the Institute of Psychiatry. She was for several years Senior Lecturer in
Child Psychiatry at the University of Colombo and became involved in
developing Primary Care Programmes for Child Mental Health with the support of UNICEF and the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka. This led to initiatives relating to training personnel to help war traumatised children, and her inputs in to these programmes have continued over the years.
