Dr Sounthy Perinpanayagam

Dr Perinpanayagam worked and trained in formal Psychiatry for seven years before he went in for Psychoanalytical training. He completed training psychoanalysis at the Institute of Psychoanalysis and withdrew from the theoretical training when he was appointed as Consultant in Adolescent Psychiatry and Medical Director of the Regional Adolescent Unit for the North East Thames region in 1975. He set up the first Adolescent Unit in the region which ran successfully for ten years. He has written a book, A Child is Being Beaten: The Psychodynamics of Adolescence, based on the work of the unit.
